[TCML] EMI/RFI Filters for Dummies

Fellow Coilers,

I’ve poured through the archives and came up more confused then when I started. Can someone help me understand? 
1) emi filter before or after the variac? (or both)
2) line or load towards the mains before the variac? and/or
3) line or load towards the nst after the variac?
I’m using a Terry filter; just don’t know which direction to go with the EMI filter. My goal is to not fry my 60” HDTV.
