fantastic looking car coil. reminds me a lot of mine. I also love the animated gifts.I run a 15 inch coil in the middle of the city in my backyard with a 40 by 60 foot backyard. Throws about 14 inch streamers. Hope to post some pictures soon. In some places, it probably scares the bebjezus out of folks. But it always generates a lot of questions. In my neighborhood, we got no complaints. But I had a few pesky neighbors suspecting that I was trying to enact time travel or creating free energy somehow and they wanted in on it. I really had a mental debate as to whether I should disabuse them of those theories. I figured there could be some use at some point to neighbors thinking I had a time machine, only I still can't figure out what. Meanwhile - the sight of a working coil in a neighborhood driveway validates that in our country "normal" people are industrious, creative, skillful people, and capable of making lightning at will. I wouldn't want it any other way. Joe a proud coiler for the past 5 years. I opened the link and it was opened through Google+. It apparently tags your icon pic in a little circle over every pic when you hover. Since your icon is a little dog, it looked as if you had placed your family pet inside a hamster ball faraday cage and placed at the bottom of your coil. Awesome! Needed that laugh at work today Thanks everyone. Let's not forget the moderation team in our gratitude. They are the tireless ones performing the moderation duties which are significant. One thing I didn't mention was that my desire for the banner picture was something above or behind the "Tesla Coil Mailing List" banner, so the picture should be wide and short. I'll try some cropped images to see how it works. I also really like the idea of a rotating set of images. It would make the site more interesting I think. I'll be the first to give folks like Chip and Jim a nod for their good will in doing this. Because, for mostly list lurkers like me who don't often post, but love the technical content and the intelligent discussion that goes on, it is a real joy, and one of the main reasons I have never cancelled my subscription to the list. I used to be a member of the PIC chip mailing list ... well there is another story, and I good reason I am a member no longer. I love the intelligent discussion but don't usually feel smart enough to join in, hence my mostly lurker status. Hope to have some pictures and videos soon of some new coils I am building though that I can share. >From the moderators, just as an idea to list members who might be interested, how much trolling and the like to you guys have to filter for us? Most if the dreck is caught by the sw, presented to YHS's as suspect and left to go away. Never kept count, maybe 5%? Of that, a fraction of a % is misguided, well intentioned items, requiring intervention. The auto reject does about 5-10 messages a day (obvious spam or gibberish) I'd say we reject perhaps a message a month (Chip can probably get some sort of statistic out of mailman). Usually, it's someone who forgot some piece of info in a "for sale" listing. I tend to reject or just drop messages that are responses to "test, is the list alive".. my rejection tells you that the list got the message posting, and there's no need to clutter the archives with it. We get a message a month or so from someone posting from a different email source than they usually do. If you're posting from multiple clients with multiple return addresses, you can just subscribe under the multiple addresses, and turn off delivery to all but one. Thanks, that is good to know. Quite a surprise really considering the fervent nature of some less-than-credible mobs that unfortunately like to link themselves to Tesla's work, no names need be mentioned but for the complete lack of respect for the laws of thermodynamics that some of them have. Thank you for the kind words, I had a wonderful time working on this and look forward to getting the sync gap running and spring to come around so I can test some more. Michigan winters are not good for outdoor coils haha. As for the specs on the coil The whole coil with the base and caster stands about 86" from the pavement. My neighbors love it and I have drawn folks from several blocks away looking for the noise. The house across the street had just moved in the day before first light! Imagine their surprise when they looked out their window that first night. I felt bad and shut down early as they hid inside and peered out their windows through the blinds at their "crazy" new neighbor, but the next day they had a ton of questions, we have now enjoyed may a BBQs since then. Toroid 42x8 (It is ducting covered in lightweight drywall compound and foil tape) Secondary 8.25x38 1600 turns exactly MMC is 142 942c 106.7nF Power in is 240 Center grounded All shunts removed so I do have them ballasted by an old arc welder Before I removed the shunts I did not have the ballast but after removing them I did for sure. But the performance seems to be quite a bit better and my Mots seem to take the stress better. I ballast them to about 40 amps of draw from the wall. So almost 10kva. All mots are sealed and under oil. Just a little point, have you floated the cores of your outer MOT's ? I run a similar coil BUT the 6 MOT supply is full wave rectified , smoothed and resonant charging used. I float cores on one half and earth cores on the other side (just experimenting). ALL Outer MOT's are in oil like you do Ta ted -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----Original Message----- From: Andrew Webster Sent: Thursday, December 12, 2013 4:26 AM To: Tesla Coil Mailing List Subject: Re: [TCML] Photos Hello all!
