Re: [TCML] DMM Question

Thanks for the insight. I just want one for my son. I also bought a "disposable" one, but if it gives false readings when batts are low, it'll prolly end up as a Goodwill contribution.

400 Joules! I can do 15 kJwith my Fluke and Wavetek, and they are quite
happy at 10 kV, with the appropriate probe. Blowing stuff up for the sake
of blowing them up says nothing about the product. I can drop a bowling
ball on any TV. Does that make them inferior?

i think the point was the new model fluke failed safely, i'd say a dmm that
explodes is inferior to one that doesnt, it comes down to what you need it
for i guess. i regularly test at boards that have 8ka plus of fault current
so i 'feel' i need as much protection as possible.  Another point is my
fluke t5, very basic, just volts; ohms to 1k and clamp current, but could
quite likely survive that bowling ball of yours does give false readings at
low batt just before the indicator comes on.  And hey if you buy 2 cheapies
you can always check one against the other.
