Hi Terry.
I'm pretty sure that the plate cap is the only primary cap. The last
time I examined the coil closely, I didn't see any other obvious part
that could be a capacitor. I remember that the power supply was a 9/30
neon, and the secondary was 4" in diameter by 4.5 or so feet tall. The
primary is helical, about 1 foot across, and about 8 inches high. I
can't remember how many turns. By "intense arcs", I mean that they were
very thick. They didn't look like VTTC arcs, and were not particularly
bright. It sure was loud though! :-). I will check with him about the
coil, but it may be a while. The problem is, he was my high school
physics teacher, and I haven't talked to him in about a year. I will
see what I can do.
What do you mean when you say that the coil may be working as a loosly
coupled transformer? I thought that's what a TC is. Please explain
(I'm new to this).
