Hi Gerry,

Raising the toroid increases the toroid-to-primary or toroid-to-ground 
distance, reducing the odds for downward strikes, particularly on systems 
using shorter coil forms. And, a larger major diameter toroid can be 
elevated a greater distance from the top turn while still providing 
adequate shielding. Raising the toroid can also be used to "tweak" tuning a 
bit, since it reduces the secondary-toroid resonant frequency a bit.
