I should add that I'm perfectly willing to believe in
plasma phenomena like this, having seen (with my own
eyeballs) similar things done in microwave ovens.  My
skepticism here is directed entirely at the legitimacy
of the "photo".  I just had a knee-jerk "hoax"
reaction when I looked at it :-))

You're right, if it's real, the effect will be reproducible and many 
people will. And if it IS fake,  the PICTURE will soon be reproduced 
all over the place by true believers as a "Proof".
