Hey Rob...Do you have the time and finances to rewind? If not, then a splice is in order. Try to cut the wire in a diagonal manner at the splice point, solder the joint and insulate the joint with some hi quality insulator ( black or red Glyptol comes to mind ;) )... Ive done this type of splice more times than I can remember and it holds up better than a standard turn to turn insulative values...
