Hello Gareth,When you add C to your RF ground, what exactly is your hookup? From ground to base of coil? You say it "appears" hotter/longer. Do you have measurements pre and post to compare or is this simply what your eyes are telling you? My point here is that when you find something that appears to give longer sparks, measure the difference and report those differences.
Let's assume there is a real difference (imagine a 2 inch difference). Have you thought about what else might cause this with the addition of C at RF ground? Could it be that this grounded C added additional energy storage capacitance to the resonator? Or maybe just offset the tuning in the right direction? If either of these (quickly flopped out of my head) are true, can you think of a way to disprove one versus the other (or both)? Just some things to think about.
I have no problem hearing of new applications or even phenomenon, but be careful regarding theory. Too many times I've heard coilers spout off with new theory's which seem to always require some goofy modification of known and proven physics. When you make a statement such as "I have my own theories with regards to how electricity can work", then that is a giant humongous red flag which identifies that you don't know how electricity works in the first place. Trust me, 90% of those which read your statement had the same thoughts.
There are some who have new theories which would make a coil work better than the current mode of design, but their theories do not re-invent physics. Those coilers I hold in high regard because they understand or at least attempt to learn the physics associated and simply try to go to the next step or in a different direction. Unfortunately, some think todays physics are governed into a single direction and if a new theory was proposed, it would be seen by the scientific community as pseudo science. That is absolutely not true. There are myriads of such web sites today which spout off with this type of propaganda. Don't be pulled in to those lies. Science is science and pseudo science is a science which must ignore main stream science to make their theories work (at least on paper). Einstein, Tesla, and other greats would have a good laugh (or cry) at some of the garbage on the web these days.
For example, there's a fish in a glass cylinder on my desk. If I ignore the water and it's properties , I can probably give some new theory about how this fish flies through the air, but of course I would have to rewrite physics to mathematically prove this and I'll probably give some new property that science has ignored which allows this to happen. In other words, I can make it appear correct on paper to the untrained eye. The trained eye will however say something about the water (main stream science). That's about when pseudo science lashes out with statements of blasphemy and decides to put up a website on the subject written to attract the untrained. Human behavior is fascinating to observe.
Anyway, be careful with such statements. Believe it or not, I'm one of the more liberal coilers about new ideas. Some members can lash out pretty hard about these things. I understand why they do. I also understand why some entertain these thoughts. I fault no one. I simply hope that those who entertain new physics will first attempt to understand current physics (if we don't understand the past 100 years of physics, what good is a new idea).
Best regards, Bart
I just finished experimenting with my first Coil and when I add microwave capacitors to my RF ground it appears to give a longer hotter spark when I connect it in parallel rather than in series(3) Or directly to earth. The differince is noted on my small coil.Is it possible to increase this? My hopes are to Invent something out of Tesla Coils and I have my own theories with regards to how electricity can work.I wish I could tell you all but if anyone would like to help me your attention would be much appreciated by email.Regards Gareth _______________________________________________Tesla mailing list Tesla@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.pupman.com/mailman/listinfo/tesla
