Hi Gary,I agree, who needs another project (I can't seem to finish the ones I start ;-) ). I just wanted to point out my bps measurement using an optical pick up. I probably went a little overboard with the data acquisition mod. What you suggest (frequency counter) would likely do very well for a quick bps measurement. I used a light to voltage transducer to simply switch the gap light into a 5V pulse (which I fed to windaq mod). This worked fine (and likely due to the placement of the optic probe which would see only a one gaps light). It could easily be read by a frequency counter. I wish I would have thought of your idea back then as it would have been even easier without all the USB hassle encountered.

This was not a casual bit of construction and I never did achieve a stable and reliable vertical calibration. That is the only way I know of to get an accurate HF measurement of the primary side stuff. Mine can give erratic readings if I have a fluorescent lite too close to it. See what other people have to say about protecting a scope in that situation.... Ive never done it due to the fear of trashing mine...
